COSMETIC ACUPUNCTURE

Cosmetic acupuncture, also known facial rejuvenation, is a safe and natural way to improve the skin. To achieve desired results, patients receive a series of about 10 treatments depending on age. The results are more subtle than plastic surgery or Botox, but with fewer side effects and less cost.
Using a Korean technique called Miso facial rejuvenation, the acupuncturist focuses on the muscles of facial expression. Ultra-fine needles are inserted into the face, head and neck to stimulate blood flow and collagen production. There is little, if any, discomfort or pain. Needles may also be placed in other parts of the body (usually the arms and legs) to address any underlying imbalances. The needles stay in for 30 minutes.
Once the needles are removed, tui na (Chinese medical massage) is done to further stimulate facial muscles. Then an arnica cream is applied to prevent bruising. The acupuncturist may recommend an herbal formula, dietary or lifestyle changes.
After Miso facial rejuvenation, fine lines may be entirely eliminated, and deeper wrinkles diminished. Bags or dark circles under the eyes can be reduced, jowls firmed, puffiness eliminated, droopy eyelids lifted and double chins minimized. Clients can expect a healthier glow to the skin, smoother skin, better skin tone, increased skin hydration, brighter eyes and less puffiness. The secondary benefits include a reduction in TMJ pain, decongestion of sinuses, less acne or rosacea, stress reduction, better sleep and benefits to the eyes, ears and brain. Some patients may have mild bruising after treatments, although it is not very common.
Cosmetic acupuncture is contraindicated for patients with uncontrolled hypertension, seizure disorders and migraines. Pregnant women, nursing mothers and people taking blood-thinning medications should not have this procedure.
